Although its a tiny bit commercial: I would recommend the 42 lessons for clinker plywood construction at the http://www.offcenterharbor.com website!
Its such a good way of learning from a professional builder in his very ‘slow’ teachings.
There are more courses on that site: among others there is building a strip plank way, lofting and even…[Read more] -

This technique originated in Northern Europe and was notably used by the Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Frisians, and Scandinavians. Klinker construction is characterized by its overlapping seams,…[Read more]

Material databses play crucial role especially when it comes to design or engineering. They provide specific information about wood species and their properties and even give some info on allergens, toxicity – or sustinability. So one can discover lesser-known but remarkable wood types. Thanks for the good link!

Bert van Baar replied to the topic Technology and Shipwright: enabler or killer? in the forum Shipwright-Shipwright 9 months, 1 week ago
Technolgy could replace much work of a shipwright BUT: when all work is being done by robots, computers and other new technolgy: who can pay for the boats he was able to build? Everybody workless with no or little pay ….
And this is true for many, many other workers …. -
Bert van Baar replied to the topic Choosing the right wood in the forum Shipwrights-Students 9 months, 1 week ago
One website (of many) to search for good boatbuilding woods could be: https://www.wood-database.com/.
In the search box enter <boatbuilding > and wait.
How serious this search engine works?
I think every language has its own wood species websites, but if one can select <boatbuilding> I am not sure. -

– availability, recourses in your country and internationally …..
– best practices are often expensive so prices may be considered …..
– what part of the boat …..
– must it be straight or curved …..
– is it for tradition…[Read more] - Load More
