When looking for the perfect boat for a renovation, picking it up in an other country can be a good idea to find exactly what you need. However, unlike cars, legistlation are very different, they are two things to take into consideration, and that beginners tend to forget:

– You can keep the “flag” (pavillon) of another country. This can be especially interesting if you live in a country with fastidious rules regarding boating (such as Spain).

– Even within the EU, not all countries ask for the same licenses to navigate. Even though the rules have become more flexible in 2011, you allways need to check if you have the rights to sail your own boat in another country.
